A couple quick comments, as a Greek American I am getting tired of all the Greek American bashing that goes on; but at the same time Greeks thru out the world want us lobbying for them, building/repairing Greek churches and Greek schools and so on. Greek Americans are expected to live and make money in the US, but god forsaken if they adopt any of the American culture, if we do, we start becoming to Americanized for everyone else's taste, and we are damaged goods. And every time the US makes a bad decision we have to hear about it for decades, like electing Bush, as if the rest of the world has not elected morons also, and forget the fact that most elections in this country are almost 50/50.

In addition as a Greek American who's mom is not Greek, and do not speak the Greek language that well I have also seen more than enough snobbish attitude from some Greeks here in the states, until they need something like a job, and their whole attitude takes a 360 degree turn.

welcome to the world of greeks my friend

where the athenians constantly called the spartans barbarians......until the persians came about....."and their whole attitude takes a 360 degree turn."

deal with it

as for the americanization bashing bit....if that was a jab at my earlier comments.... i was being cynical....or didnt you notice?

maybe tomorrow i would like to tell you a story about greeks throughout the world and SAE and how the different greeks rom the diaspora, america, africa, australia, and europe.....and of course the greeks in greece

if it wasnt so sad, it would be flipping funny

later...when i have some time

in the mean time.....learn a very greek expression......" sta arhidia mou what others think" ......it will help you deal with your obvious frustration with the so called perceived bashing

I just looooove fishing!!! Its all in the bait

About artists expressing their political views, I am OK with it no matter their political background unless, their politics overtake the music.

About Greek-Americans, I like to think that many of them adopt the best of the two cultures customs, behaviors, way of thinking, and so on.

What set me off above, (besides lack of sleep) is that Mgs_Alx got all offended because Kostavv criticized his apparently favorite artist, and he went off on Greek-Americans as if that was the best way to explain Sfakianakis concert style. The funny thing is that Kostavv, it appears joined hellenism.net just to b**** about Sfakianakis, and Mgs_Alx created an account just to come to Sfakianakis rescue.

Good night!

hi friend, I have the "sta arhidia mou" attitude instilled in me for the most part. Life circumstances have meant that I had to adopt that attitude about many things. However, as a Greek American, I am proud of both parts, the Greek and the American parts, and I will at times like many Greeks get hot and patriotic and defend the 2 countries I love.

"

isn't this the Greeks greatest weakness in history, their inability to work together and unite that has caused many of their problems, they had their Peloponnesian wars and other wars, and then they allowed the Romans to divide and concurred them, And didn't they in-fight (during the Byzantium years) and had all these small puppet states before the Turks came up and concurred them.

Hey Dino. You are right. Initially, I became a member just to show my disappointment toward Notis.
People join a forum for one reason or another, this one was mine.
I didn't think I was going to get this kind of response.
Greeks are more known for gossiping and their cynical humor.
That's for sure

what i dont understand is why people attend a concert when they dont like the performers style?
anyone that knows Sfakianaki would also know that he always leaves the crowd with something to think about....i remember going to his first concert years ago where he ended his concert with "patrida mou"

Basic point is every song tells a story...the fact that "provata" upset some American Greeks just goes to show that people let their egos get in the way... his lyrics are of a true story, a story that has affected us all in one way or another...

the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8BwNqO0Cbo

song lyrics:

Provata

translation:

Sheeps

We put a wolf to look after the sheeps
In a white house we don’t say names
Some little sheep fight alone
They fight the wolf that entered in their flock.

Sheep wake up our turn is coming
And you little shepards go play around
Sheep wake up, go for the hills
Wolves will exist as long as sheep exist

There was a bear that quarded the wolf,
Guarded the wolf that was overwatching her(the bear)
"Hey Wolf, the bear is not harmless"
"Now that she is hurt, it’s dangerous."

Sheep wake up our turn is coming
And you little shepards go play around
Sheep wake up, go for the hills
Wolves will exist as long as sheep exist

-CHORUS-

Sheep wake up our turn is coming
And you little shepards go play around
Sheep wake up, go for the hills
Wolves won't exist as long as sheep won't exist

Hi. As I said before, I would not have attended if I knew what was coming.
Thanks for the lyrics.
ps. Ending the night with Patrida mou is a lot better than Provata!

Peace from the land of the free and the home of the brave!

so are you saying Provata is shite?

would that be because you cant dance with it, or that it shoves a political opinion down your throat?

Hi Jen, as I said above "About artists expressing their political views, I am OK with it no matter their political background unless, their politics overtake the music.", What I mean by that if I go to an 2 hour concert the music and entertainment better account for more than 1.5 hours of entertainment, if they spend more than ½ hour talking about politics I would be disappointed. I would not had gotten overly offended by Sfakianakis, but Mgs_Alx was annoying in that he comes and lives and worksor goes to school  in the US, but seems to have nothing but bad things to say about Greek Americans and the US, and his outburst was because of one person's comments about one of his favorite musicians.

Hello Eyoismos,

I was referring to when you mentioned that the Greek's favorite pastime is "bitching" when I actually think it's gossiping and cynical/sarcastic humor that they have

And Yes and Yes to comment made at 7:04am
